Message from the
Chief
Chief Stilwell is now
the Chief of Clanton
Alabama
Congratulations!
and thank you for a
wonderful tenure with
the City of Jemison
Police Department

I want to commend the
employees of the City of
Jemison Dept. of Public
Safety for their
commitment and
performance through a
very challenging year.
2007 was our first full
year operating all
public safety services,
police – fire – rescue,
under one umbrella. This
“umbrella” known as the
City of Jemison Dept. of
Public Safety brought
the three departments
closer together,
provided cross training,
and improved services
throughout Jemison.
In the police department
we saw capital
improvements in our
reporting software and
computer network that
will make it easier to
comply with Alabama
Criminal Justice
Information Systems
requirements. 2006 also
saw our first full year
as a founding member of
the Chilton County Drug
and Violent Crimes Task
Force. The Jemison
Police Department
provides an officer and
he performed
extraordinarily well as
with the other members
of the task force. Our
task force is one of the
leaders of our 25 county
region. Our criminal
investigators continue
to perform well closing
cases at a rate of over
64%. Our patrol division
has performed
outstanding and their
statistics show it by
lowering the number of
DUI’s, traffic
accidents, serious
injury accidents,
catching crimes in
progress, and keeping
our residents and
businesses safe. The
Police Department has
worked with the Chilton
County Commission to add
a full time park ranger
to Minooka Park
to help protect our
visitors and to keep the
park grounds safe.
In the fire department
we have made several
capital improvements in
purchasing a new Custom
Pumper, ordering new
turn out gear, and
installing a new cascade
system. We have also
purchased 2.5 acres to
build a second fire and
rescue station and are
under going consulting
to help lower our
Insurance Service Office
rating next year. Our
volunteer fire
department responded to
over 850 calls for
service in 2007.
In our rescue department
we concentrated on
training in 2007. Chief
Manasco taught a 40 hour
first responders course
to police, fire, and
rescue personnel along
with some members
earning their EMT basic
license. Our rescue
department responded to
its highest call volume
in 2007 and to prepare
for Jemison’s growth we
have purchased and
equipped a new rescue
vehicle.
In spite of the rapid
growth, our city is
facing, I would like to
commend the performance
of all our public safety
officers in the police,
fire, and rescue
departments. They have
proven once again that
the City of Jemison
Public Safety employees
and volunteers are
second to none when it
comes to professionalism
and dedication. I am
excited about our future
here in Jemison and I
want to thank all of our
staff for helping
Jemison become leaders
in Chilton County. It is
a true honor to call all
of them my co-workers.
Chief Brian Stilwell,
CCOP
Director
Jemison Dept. of Public
Safety
