What restrictions are there for Forest St? Do I have to get like a permit to have a slab of concrete put around my house? Or if I wanted to add on to the existing structure? What about mobile homes? Thanks

THANK YOU THIS IS WONDERFUL TO KNOW. PLEASE REMEMBER AS WE GROW, WE WANT TO FOCUS ON "CAREER OR HIGH PAYING JOBS" WE HAVE MINIMUM WAGE FAST FOOD RESTAURANTS ABOUND, AS WELL AS GAS STAIONS, BUT OUR TEENAGERS, REALLY NEED THE HIGHER PAYING JOBS TO PUT GAS IN THEIR VEHICLES TO GET TO AND FROM COLLEGE SINCE JEMISON IS RURAL AND THEN THEY NEED MONEY TO EAT ONCE THEY GET TO COLLEGE, AS WELL AS A LITTLE SPENDING MONEY IN THEIR POCKETS. IN MY DAY A MINIMUM WAGE JOB WAS ENOUGH BUT TODAY THE DOLLARS DO NOT GO AS FAR. AS WE BUILD WE NEED TO FOCUS ON THE HIGH WAGE PERMANENT JOBS, OR THE CAREER LONG TERM OPPPORTUNITIES. I WOULD ALSO LIKE TO SEE SOMEONE CONTACT THE COUNTRY MUSIC ASSOCIATION AND REBUILD OUR COUNTRY MUSIC CENTER SO THAT THE DOLLARS STAY HOME IN JEMISON INSTEAD OF GOING TO THE PELHAM VERISON MUSIC CENTER. ALSO, LOWES, HOME DEPOT/QUARTERS WOULD BE A GOOD FIT FOR THE JEMISON EXIT. IF WE COULD ALSO GET THE SAMS WHOLESALE CLUB THAT WOULD ALSO BE A GOOD INVESTMENT FOR JEMISON.

Hello Beverly, thank you for post. It seems that more has been going on with this and other projects than you are aware of. The Mayor and his administration have been very diligent in seeking business opportunities for Jemison, especially at the Interstate exit area. Tremendous efforts have been made there to install the infrastructure required to attract businesses and to accommodate their needs when they come. The lack of those things in the past has hampered development of the exit site. But this administration has focused their attention there to remove those barriers to expansion and growth. You are correct that Jemison can use the revenue from the businesses and the traffic that will generate.

The Wal-mart Corporation has had particular interest there. But they tend to work privately until they are ready to announce their intentions. Unfortunately, word got out a little early on a new project for them and has slowed things down on their progress. But other businesses have also expressed interest there and as the economy improves, growth in Jemison will follow. We have already seen Family Dollar established in Jemison. They built a nice looking facility and seem to be well received by the community. The Exxon station on the north side took care of an eyesore that was lingering. And there is evidence in town of other development right now.

The school system is a County endeavor and although we encourage and support improvements, the County and the Board of Education are the places to direct your interests in improvements. We are all for their investments in our community; but it is their budget to manage and decisions to make. Remember to vote!

Your love and concern for Jemison is most appreciated and shared by many, including our local leadership. Community involvement for all of the issues you have mentioned is imperative to our long-term success. We are counting on folks like you with spirit and drive for improvements to keep the issues alive and kicking. Thank you for taking the time to share your vision for our City!

I have been tyring to get Mayor Eddie Reed to contact SAMS CLUB to put in a store at the Jemison/Thorsby I65 Exit. I have been trying to get them to do this for 2 years. We have plenty of land there and our teenagers need the jobs. If we do not have the vision and forward thinkingness to get this company to put in a store our teenagers will loose good paying jobs to another exit possible Calera or Clanton, we DO NOT NEED THIS TO HAPPEN. Jemision's teenagers need these jobs, they are good paying jobs $10 - $15 per hour, and would be highly beneficial to the teenagers, parents, farmers who grow peaches and produce in Chilton County! Why can't we get on the ball and get this business to invest in our Jemison Exit before they INVEST SOMEWHERE ELSE!!! Citizen's please help me we need these jobs! GROW THE JEMISON EXIT, JEMISON NEEDS THE MONEY - OUR HIGH SCHOOL IS IN NEED OF REPLACING, WE NEED THE TAX REVENUE TO TOTALLY REBUILD A DECENT SCHOOL FOR OUR KIDS, AS WELL AS, PLAY GROUNDS, ATHLETIC FACILITIES, PLAY GROUNDS, COMPUTER WORKSHOPS TO COMPETE FOR JOBS IN THE FUTURE, MATH AND SCIENCE BUILDINGS, AS WELL AS A NURSING LEARNING CENTER, WHAT I GUESS I'M TRYING TO SAY IS WE NEED TO REBUILD OUR HIGH SCHOOL AND ALL ATHLETIC FACILITIES - ADD A SWIMMING TRAINING CENTER, AND THEN GET US A COLLGE IN THE BIG OLD WONDERFUL CITY OF JEMISON! WE NEED TO MAKE JEMISON THE BEST PLACE IN ALABAMA TO LIVE, BECAUSE IT IS!!!!!!

By way of further response to your question about storm shelters in Jemison, Governor Bentley talked about this on his visit to Maplesville yesterday to review the storm damage from Monday. http://www.abc3340.com/story/16593954/gov-bentley-tours-maplesville There is more to the story but this seemed particularly appropriate for your question. Hopefully Jemison will have some extra pull to get these monies from the State to help us accomplish this goal.

Hello Sofia, the City of Jemison does not yet have official storm shelter areas. The City has applied to FEMA for funding to develop them.

In an emergency please contact 911 for assistance or even our local Police or Fire Departments for help in difficult times.
