Qualifications
Applicants must be at least 21 years of age or older, must have a diploma from an accredited high school or a GED equivalent. College level courses are encouraged but not required. Applicants must also possess a valid Alabama drivers License, have no felony convictions or that of moral turpitude, must have a good driving record, submit to a criminal background investigation, and have Alabama Police Officers Standards and Training Certification.
Description
The patrol function of The Jemison Police Department is the primary law enforcement section of the department and includes a wide variety of activities. Patrol provides complete coverage of the City of Jemison at every hour of the day and night. Sworn officers are assigned to three shifts, with each under the immediate supervision of a sergeant, corporal, or shift supervisor.

Functions include but are not limited to:
Preventive patrol – this includes random patrol oriented towards the prevention of crimes and accidents, the maintenance of public order, and the discovery of hazards and delinquency causing situations.
Crime Prevention – Police Officers are responsible for promoting the prevention, resistance, and suppression of crime, Police Officers routinely provide crime prevention advice and information to the community, and are expected to report situations that may warrant the need for specific crime prevention programs.
Response to calls for service – The handling of non criminal incidents and services to the Jemison Community is the primary responsibility of patrol. By responding to routine calls for service is able to provide for and fulfill a positive role for the department.
Traffic direction and control – Patrol provides traffic direction and control at major events, response to and investigation of traffic accidents and engages in traffic law enforcement.
Maintenance of public order- The routine patrolling of the City of Jemison, as well as the proper response to disorderly situations, provides for the maintenance of order within the community.
Reporting of Information to appropriate divisions – Successful patrol operations are dependant on communication and coordination with the investigative division, administration, and other branches of city government.
